Located in Northern California, approximately twenty-five miles south of San Francisco, is the beautiful Redwood City. Rich in history from its early inhabitation by the Ohlone tribe to its tradition as a lumber port, Redwood City has been revitalized as a major tourist destination. With all of the recreation, attractions and hotels Redwood City has to offer, it may just be the perfect place to plan your next getaway.

Since California is known for its spectacular climate, outdoor recreation is big in Redwood City. One of the local favorites is Maddux Park. This outdoor park features a perimeter safety fence and is known for its cleanliness. It has several play spaces for children and dogs are allowed on leashes. There is also the Andrew Spinas Park. This park features monkey bars, spring-mounted animals and a jungle gym and slide for the kids, but it also features some grown-up activities as well. Basketball courts, tennis courts, shade trees and picnic tables make this the perfect park for the entire family.

If you are in the market for family fun, check out the Malibu Grand Prix. This family entertainment center features a go-kart track, batting cages and miniature golf courses. Even adults are drawn to the game room, which features all sorts of giant arcades. For some fun on the water, the bumper boats feature on-board water cannons and safe collision action. Don't forget the Grand Prix, the recreation center's namesake attraction. This high-powered, custom-built Indy style-racing track snakes around half a mile, allowing the racecars to get up to blazing speeds. Two-seater cars are available so parents can take the younger kids for their first thrill ride. The park frequently has specials and promotions and birthday parties are available.

Redwood City is known for its outstanding parks and recreation and it boasts thirty different parks from the small scale to large forty-acre parks. Many are dog and skate friendly. If you happen to book one of the hotels Redwood City provides without an on-site swimming pool, the town has two outdoor public pools that operate in season. Pool hours are from sunrise to sunset and parking is on a first come, first served basis.

Dining in Redwood City is also family-friendly. Options include the typical fast food fare but small business owners operate bistros, cafés and coffee shops, so visit the local establishments while you are there.

This corner of the peninsula is quickly becoming a major entertainment destination for the state of California and beyond. Renowned for its concert series, such as Music on the Square, Jazz on Main and Music in the Park, the city provides an incredible amount of free concerts and other forms of entertainment. Year-round community activities such as festivals, music, movies, dance and crafts are all here, steeped in a rich cultural tradition.

To learn more about the culture and history of the area, take the family on a trip to the San Mateo County History Museum. This institution prides itself on enriching, exciting and educating visitors by preserving the history of San Mateo County. Located downtown in the old San Mateo County Courthouse, the museum features professional exhibit galleries all housed in a 1910 work of architectural art. The museum educates visitors on the county's natural resources, transportation, commerce, suburban life and neighborhood diversity. It's an excellent starting point to learn more about Redwood City and the surrounding area.

Redwood City's downtown is an important preservation in history. The Lathrop House, located in the center of downtown, is one of the peninsula's oldest mansions. Built in 1863, the house is an architectural treasure and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Keep in mind that choosing from the hotels Redwood City has to offer means that you will be perfectly positioned to visit San Francisco. Many visitors to the Bay Area choose to stay in Redwood City for a more relaxed vacation away from the traffic of the big city. Accommodations are family-friendly and generally provide complimentary newspapers, parking, swimming pools, coffee and Wi-Fi access. Most of the rooms listed for hotels Redwood City offers are minutes away from the San Francisco International Airport and may provide a shuttle service to and from the airport.
